Electrical Testing SWMS

Test and Tag Electrical Equipment

The test and tag safe work method statement assesses risk following the hazard identification process connected with electrical test and tagging and the subsequent implementation of risk controls to manage risk.

  • SWMS safe work method statement requires hazard control measures be implemented per test and tag guidelines and testing and tagging requirements for testing and tagging electrical equipment.

Test and Tag Safe Work Method Statement

Workplace Health and Safety has conducted a comprehensive hazard analysis for electrical testing and tagging, e.g. test and tag procedure for electrical safety test and tag with control measures developed for identified hazards per hazard control hierarchy.

  • Assess and review health and safety practices in the workplace to control risks

  • WHS consultation for the identification of hazards with the testing and tagging of electrical equipment

  • Risk assessment to identify health and safety hazards in the workplace having the potential to cause death and serious injury

  • Health and safety planning for testing and tagging equipment, e.g. minimise risks through the planning process

  • WHS consultation and participation processes ensure adequate health and safety communication

  • Workplace environmental hazards, e.g. working in hazardous areas, electrical hazard

  • Trip hazards in the workplace likely to result in slips trips and falls injuries

  • Implementation of controls for how to test and tag electrical equipment, e.g. isolation of hazards and services

  • Health and safety at work information and instructions for workers to manage risks

  • Electrical safety plan for testing and tagging electrical equipment that identifies hazards and risks with testing electrical equipment and provides electrical safety guidelines, e.g. tag and testing requirements and test and tag procedure

  • Electrical testing equipment, e.g. test and tag machine used to test and tag equipment per tag and test requirements

  • Insulated tools when testing electrical equipment, e.g. electrical live working tools

  • Visual inspection of electrical equipment by test and tag electrician to ensure it complies with test and tag regulations, e.g. electrical equipment safety, power leads

  • Initial electrical inspection and testing using a tag and test machine to identify if there is a fault with the mains supply

  • Earth insulation test and electrical leakage testing of electrical equipment and devices with a portable appliance tester

  • Electrical test tags (test and tag colours) per tag and test regulations shall be affixed to electrical equipment and tools where the tag test results comply with the test and tag standard

  • Recording tag test results in the test and tag register and test and tag log book

  • Hazardous chemicals used in connection with electrical testing and tagging

  • Hazardous manual tasks in connection with testing and tagging electrical equipment

  • Personal protective equipment, e.g. electrical PPE and electrical safety gear

  • Health and safety training for workers, e.g. test and tag training

  • Workplace housekeeping incorporating material handling and storage safety

  • Legislative and regulatory requirements for compliance with WHS legislation, e.g. electrical codes of practice, testing and tagging regulations and test and tag standards

  • Monitoring controls, e.g. assessment and review the effectiveness of control measures

  • Electrician tasks and activities in connection with electrical test and tag

SWMS Electrical

Test and Tag

Electrical testing SWMS shall assess the risk of construction high-risk activities involved in electrical testing and tagging.

High-risk work activities that may expose workers to WHS hazards are likely to include but not be limited to:

  • Implementing an isolation procedure for tag and test to ensure electrical equipment safety

  • Electrical test and tagging, e.g. test and tag class 1 and 2

  • Operation of test and tag machines for testing electrical equipment

  • Test tag per test and tag requirements

  • Other test and tag electrical hazards.
