 Jigsaw safe work method statement/job safety analysis

What is a jigsaw?

A jigsaw is a handheld electrically operated tool fitted with a reciprocating saw blade capable of cutting arbitrary curves, stenciled designs or other custom shapes.

  • The speed of a jigsaw can be controlled (variable speed) whilst the saw blade operates in an up and down direction cutting the material as the main body of the jigsaw is pushed forward.
  • Jigsaws vary in design yet some jigsaws are equipped with rollers or other guides to steady and lessen the bending of the blade in its cutting operation.
  • The sole plate of some jigsaws can be adjusted to undertake bevel cuts to an angle of 45 relative to the vertical plane.

Uses

A jigsaw may be used in the performance of a work task to:
  • Cut a pattern in timber materials;
  • Cut metal materials using a metal cutting blade;
  • Cut plastic materials;

  • Connection of electrical lead to an approved safety switch. Testing of safety switch;
