Safety harness

A general-purpose safety harness is an article of personal protective equipment having a lanyard attached to it for the purpose of connecting to an anchorage point or a static line.

  • Safety harnesses comprise of shoulder, leg and waist straps capable of being adjusted to suit an individual wearers needs.
  • A dorsal D ring is located between the shoulder blades of a harness, this is the point of attachment for a lanyard.

Tasks

Tasks associated with a general purpose safety harness include:

  • Correct fitment and adjustment of safety harness;
  • Connection of lanyard to safety harness and anchorage point or static line;
  • Inspection of safety harness and lanyard prior to its use;
  • Inspection of anchorage points and/or static lines used in connection with a fall arrest/prevention system;
  • Storage of safety harness following its use.
