 Plant registration  

Legislation prescribes that plant used by employees be safe to use, maintained and compliant with applicable design and engineering standards.

  • Articles and items of plant used in the performance or undertaking of a task or activity should be entered in the plant register.

Traceability is easy with the creation of a register for an article or item of plant.

All reports, information and details are stored securely and can be retrieved at anytime.

Plant to be registered

Plant and equipment that would be recorded in the register are those articles or items having a unique serial or identification (PIN) numbers.

The list below will give you an indication as to some of the plant that you may have at your workplace.

  • Mobile plant e.g. crane, skid-steer loader, forklift truck.
  • Boiler equipment.
  • Motor vehicles.
  • Ladders.
  • Electrical equipment.
  • Fire extinguishers.
  • Etc.

History report

History reports can be generated for any registered article or item of plant assigned to a parent, child-parent or child group.

A history report for an article or item of plant provides a detailed record of information relating to its purchase, inspection reports, risk assessments, etc.

Completing the register

Only line management personnel have permission to add and/or remove an article or item of plant from a parent, child-parent or child group.

Completing the plant registration process is easy.

You will be asked details in relation to each article of plant. To save time, we recommend that you gather the following information.

Plant details

  • Is the plant an existing article or item or has it been recently purchased.
  • Select the article or item of plant from the comprehensive list or provide details.
  • Is it mobile, static or portable.
  • Make of plant and equipment.
  • Model number.
  • Serial number.
Attach a photograph for a visual record of the article or item of plant.

Group allocation

Plant is allocated to a parent, child-parent, child group.

Compliance

  • Details as to any certificate of registration or compliance required.
  • High-risk license or certificate of competency required.

Operation, maintenance and modifications

  • General condition and status of plant.
  • Maintenance of plant.
  • Modification of plant.

Other

The following details are not mandatory but can be entered:

  • Plant Identification number (PIN).
  • Plant design registration number.
  • Registration number.
  • Attachments fitted.
  • Hour/odometer reading (where applicable).
  • Purchase details.
  • Etc.

Sign-off

As part of the verification process you will be asked to confirm the details of each article of plant being entered as being true and correct.

Provide your family and given names and your position within the organisation.

Submit.

Registration complete

Where all details are provided, the plant shall be assigned to the nominated group/s.

A record of the plant register shall be created and stored on the WHSMS database.

  • If the form is returned after being submitted, you have not completed a mandatory field.
  • You must complete those fields highlighted in red before moving to the next phase of the registration process.

Multiple items of plant

You can continue to add other articles or items of plant in the set-up process or you can add additional plant at a later stage.

To add an article or item of plant at a later date, proceed to the "organiser" tab located in the grey header bar, select "register plant", this will take you to the plant registration form.
